Ong Ngoai's 75th birthday was Thursday 01/10/2013.... so we threw him a surprise party this weekend! It was actually a weekend full of surprises! Bac Thuy, Bac Viet, Chi Madison & Anh Dylan came up Friday night and Bac Khanh, Bac Hung and And Ian came up Saturday after noon. 1) On Saturday, Ba Ngoai convinced Ong Ngoai to take her out to eat (in the pouring rain!) and we showed up for lunch w/ Bac Thuy, Chi Madison & Anh Dylan. 2) When they went back to our house after lunch, Bac Khanh, Bac Hung and Anh Ian were hiding in the house to jump out and yell "SURPRISE!"
It's currently Football Playoffs season, so Ong Ngoai parked himself on the sofa, glued to the TV while the rest of us scurried all around him to prepare for the party (i'm sure he thought we were just having dinner w/ the immediate family). Daddy cooked up a humungous batch of his famous Bun Bo Hue:
it was SPICY and DELICIOUS as always!
Everybody was sniffling with each spoonful and asking for more!
Daddy also grilled chicken wings and Korean BBQ ribs, Mommy made fried rice and che for dessert. Ba Ngoai made xoi do, flan and thach. Bac Tu also made banh khoai nuong. All the foods were a hit!
Again, since there were playoff games going on, most of the men stayed near TV,
the ladies sat around and chit chatted, and you kids played mostly upstairs.
We eventually forced a "pause" during half time for singing and birthday cake!
